TExES 4-8 Social Studies (118) Practice Test

The event tests understanding of U.S. policy toward Plains tribes during westward expansion and the specific people involved in campaigns aimed at clearing land for settlers. The Red River War was a series of actions in 1874–1875 on the southern Great Plains around the Red River, with the goal of forcing certain tribes to relocate to reservations. The groups targeted were the Comanche and Kiowa, along with their Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho allies. These tribes had carried out raids into Texas settlements, and the campaign sought to end that resistance by displacing them onto reservations in Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The other options reference tribes from different regions or conflicts (northern plains Sioux, Southwest Apache and Navajo, Southeastern tribes), so they aren’t the focus of the Red River War.
